The Centre for Research on Democracy and Development in Africa (CEREDDA) was created in May 1993 as an indigenous Pan-African Think Tank to provide civil society perspectives and African-centred frameworks on the continent's democratisation, governance, and development challenges.
Formally registered in 2013 under Cameroon Law 90-53, CEREDDA operates under the motto "Unity, Development, Service" — running five flagship programmes and hosting the Presidency of the Cameroon Think Tank Network since 2017. Founded by Ambassador Churchill Ewumbue-Monono, Cameroon's Permanent Representative to the African Union.

Raising public awareness and generating action on the Africa Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance — covering election observation, peace & security management, humanitarian law, and local government decentralisation.
Fostering debate on youth, gender, forced migration, sustainable development, and Africa's development cooperation frameworks through research and high-level policy dialogues.
Promoting African identity, Pan-Africanism, cultural heritage, the African diaspora dialogue, and African public diplomacy across the continent and beyond.
The CEREDDA Publishing House, Community Radio, African Conscience Magazine, CEREDDA Newsletter, African Journal of Democracy and Development, and the Library & Documentation Centre.
Promoting human rights through AU Humanitarian Forums, symposia, training and engagement with the African Commission on Human & Peoples' Rights and AU quasi-judicial organs.
CEREDDA has been officially accredited to observe Cameroon's Presidential Elections, continuing its mandate under the African Democracy & Governance Programme. Observers are deployed across all ten regions of Cameroon to document the electoral process and ensure accountability.
